Mini Grant Award to Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards

The Virginia Urban Forest Council or Trees Virginia has awarded the Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards a mini grant of $500 for a Neighborhood Tree Voucher Program.  The under-canopied neighborhood of Fifeville in Charlottesville will benefit as 20 homeowners each receive a $25 tree voucher redeemable at Southern States on Harris Street in the spring.  CATS members will guide the purchase of a tree and assist with the planting.  Nine trees have been identified and will be in stock at Southern States.  Trees such as serviceberry, redbud, and sourwood have been selected. Homeowners receiving the tree voucher will be required to pay part of the cost and maintain a watering schedule in the first year.  The CATS Team members responsible for this project are Billie Dietz, Marjie Guiliano, Janet Eden, Carol Carter, Patricia Cook, Harriet Mederios, and Jacki Vawter.
