English Ivy Invasion

December 19, 2013

Sandy Hausman of WVTF Public Radio did a short piece about the problems of  English Ivy recently. You can hear her at http://wvtf.org/post/ivy-invasion.

How about making a New Year’s resolution to remove ivy from the trees in Greenleaf Park on Monday afternoon, January 6, 1:00-3:00pm? Tree Stewards started working there last November, but there’s plenty more work to be done. Contact JoAnn Dalley, project leader, if you have questions.

Roanoke Tree Stewards (www.roanokeva.gov/treestewards) has an informational and colorful flyer about the Dangers of English Ivy.

I’d say dress in layers and bring a Thermos of tea and some socks and shoes to change into for the drive home! Probably the best we can hope for on a Jan 6 workday. Wet feet and gloves likely.
