On February 21, presenter Tony Russell, Rivanna Master Naturalist, give an excellent program on identifying trees in the winter using buds, leaf scars, and twigs.  Following his remarkable, close-up photos illustrating the variety of identifying factors, students had the opportunity to examine actual tree twigs to determine the tree species.

The class will continue on Tuesday mornings through the end of May.  Field trips will take the class to Ivy Creek Natural Area, Albemarle County Office Building on 5th St Extended, Ragged Mountain, and Montpelier.  Any CATS member who has already taken the training class may sit in on any presentation.  The class schedule is posted on our website.  For questions or more information, email cville.area.tree.stewards@gmail.com.
