Heart of the Woods

Is the woodpecker in love

With the sound of his pecking,

Or perhaps he is

With the tree he is wrecking.

Is his rat-a-tat-tat

A delight to his ears,

Does his thock-thock-thock

Reduce him to tears

Of joy as he beats

His resonating rhythm

Through the woods

As he eats

One more bug.
