Identify and Control Non-Native Invasive Plants in Fall / Winter – Part 2: Control Methods
November 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Tree Steward Tim Maywalt will present this two-part class by Zoom. Managing the invasive plants that are overtaking our green spaces is a challenge. But any of us can do it with the knowledge to identify and treat them. Part 1 will show you how to identify about 30 common invasive plants in the Virginia Piedmont. Part 2 illustrates a wide range of options for treating them.
We will cover:
- Identifying invasive plants
- Which invasives you can best treat now and when to treat them if spring isn’t the best time
- Using manual & mechanical control methods
- Methods for controlling invasives with herbicides
- Choosing the right herbicide and equipment, and using it properly
- Forest safety, equipment and herbicide safety, and personal protective equipment
- Reference documents for more detailed identification and treatment information
- Sources for equipment, supplies and professional help from State Foresters and Conservationists and commercial vendors;
- Restoration guidance for your green spaces after invasive plant removal.
Check back in October for registration information.
