CATS has been selling trees since 2013. Our first tree sale was in the Fall of 2013 at the City Market. In the following years CATS established a nursery in Ivy to pot and care for purchased and donated seedlings. We partnered with the Piedmont Natural Gardeners, and later with Monticello’s Tufton Farm to sell our trees. We wanted to expand to meet the community need for more trees and acquired a space for a larger nursery on the property of The Virginia Department of Forestry. The nursery has been at this location for seven years and the number of tree and shrubs sales have steadily increased.
We have two sales a year, one in April and one in in October, where we have sold 500 trees at each sale in the last couple of years. The proceeds of the tree sales have been used to purchase trees for planting projects, new class training materials, tools and equipment needed for our volunteer workdays. Our goal is to increase the tree canopy through education and offering quality cared for trees to the public at very reasonable prices.
