PLANTING TREES AT WALNUT CREEK -Thank you, UVA students and CATS volunteers!

Thank you to everyone who turned out at our Tree Planting at Walnut Creek on Saturday, March 29,2025.  Fourteen UVA students from the UVA APO Service Fraternity and the UVA Forestry Club joined 17 CATS members to plant trees at Walnut Creek Park in North Garden in Albemarle County.   Eleven container trees were planted around the parking lot at Walnut Creek beach area and additional trees and bushes from the CATS nursery were planted along the beach enclosure fence at Walnut Creek.

The mission UVA’s APO Service Fraternity is to create inclusive communities for a more peaceful world in which to make a life by developing leaders, uniting members through friendship and rendering service to all.   At the Walnut Creek planting event, CATS members provided valuable expertise and assistance to these UVA APO Service Fraternity members educating them about the importance of trees in our community.

CATS members enjoyed collaborating with UVA students to increase the tree number at Walnut Creek.

The Virginia Forestry Club at UVA provides opportunities for student involvement and community service at state and local parks to support sustainability, conservation and land management initiatives within and around Virginia and Charlottesville.  These students educate themselves and others about proper forestry techniques and conservation practices.  CATS members enjoyed working alongside these young conservators, adding new trees and bushes to the landscape at Walnut Park.
