On a perfect fall day in early November, nine Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards were glad to be outside as they spent the morning caring for the urban forest at Greenleaf Park. In the fern garden that CATS helped establish, our volunteers removed weeds and vines, freeing up a Beauty Berry and Native Pachysandra planted last spring. With mulch provided by the City of Charlottesville, they also replenished a trail that winds among the garden’s plantings, including specimen Witch Hazel now in full glory. According to Camille Wilson, who spearheads this ongoing project, the site is “tucked in for the winter, thanks to Tree Stewards.”
